Committee Members, Coaches and Bank Support:

President: Peter Jones

Founder member Pete has been padding since 1951. A founder member of the BCU Placid Water Coaching Scheme he has a particular interest in encouraging young paddlers to flat water competition. He co-ordinates the British Canoeing Marathon Committee’s Geoff Sanders Inter-Club Trophy competition for under 12 year old paddlers in memory of our founder president. Pete is our marathon racing team leader and also assists Liz with our racing development squad.


Qualifications Coach L3 PW, Aquatic First Aid

Chairman: Geoff Barber

Vehicle design engineer Geoff is a very enthusiastic paddler who enjoys competing in marathon K2 races. He can be seen most Saturday afternoons introducing new paddlers to the sport of Kayaking.

Qualifications: Level 2 Placid Water Coach: Racing, Aquatic First Aid

Vice-Chairman: David Rimington

David is a keen paddler and marathon racer. David was treasurer and secretary for several years and has been responsible for obtaining significant grants to fund the club.
  
Qualifications: Level 1 Placid Water Coach and Aquatic First Aid

Head Coach: Andy Cook

Andy is a very knowledgeable paddler with tens of thousands of paddling miles experience and long history of wilderness, expedition and white water paddling. He is a keen marathon racer and has competed in numerous ultra distance events.  Andy is a Committee member.

Qualifications: Level 4 Coach Canoe & Level 3* Coach Kayak
A4 Assessor (can assess up to level 3 coach)
Aquatic First Aid Trainer

Touring Organiser: Mark Bache

Mark is a Level 2 coach and is currently working towards 4* Canoe Leader. He is a keen river and touring paddler and organises the clubs frequent trips. Mark is the Touring Representative on the Committee.

Qualifications: UKCC Level 2 Coach, Remote Emergency Care First Aid, White Water Safety and Rescue and 4* Canoe Leader Training.

Coach and Site Maintenance Officer: Ian Taylor

Ian supports the Junior Training Group on a Saturday morning and is also a coach for Saturday afternoon sessions. Ian has introduced many youngsters (and not so youngsters) to the sport of kayaking. In addition to coaching at the club, he also coaches with the Scouts. Ian is also a committee member with responsibility for site maintenance.

Qualifications: Level 2 Coach

Coach: Andy Hennegan

Andy is a keen recreational paddler who is usually to be seen at the club on Saturday afternoons. 

Qualifications: UKCC Level 2 Coach and aquatic first aid, moderate whitewater - kayak

Coach: Liz Franklin

Liz is a Level 2 coach who is currently working towards level 3. She coaches the club’s development squad.

Qualifications : UKCC Level 2 Coach  

Coach: Andy Penhallurick

Club Performance Coach, for the sprint and marathon teams. Ex-international sprint and marathon C1 paddler.  Andy was for a time Assistant Coach to both junior and senior GB canoe sprint teams and has a degree in Sports Studies from Warwick University, his final thesis being on the biomechanical comparison of racing canoe and kayak strokes.

Qualifications : UKCC Level 2 Coach  

Coach: Emily Bache

Emily is one of our younger coaches and concentrates on the recreational activities of the club. Emily is particularly keen to encourage girls and women to take part in kayaking and canoeing.

Qualifications: UKCC Level 2 Coach
