2018 Devizes to Westminister 125 mile race

Marathon
2018 DW

Four hardy club paddlers, Oliver, Ryan, Becky & Ben set off in the rain on Good Friday for the epic annual 125 mile Devizes to Westminster race. And it rained and rained some more until the race was called off at Reading after 54 miles because of the Thames flooding. Oliver and Chris were in the lead of the C2 class & raised £1200 for the Brain Tumour Charity. Ben & Alex raised £600 for Dementia UK  & Ryan finished 27th in the senior men's K1 division. And well done to all of you.

Marathon
2018 Gailey Solihull CC
A beautiful sunny day and thankfully no wind but the usual choppy route on the canal. We came away with three medals - Second in Div 7 K2 for Julia and Conrad and 3rd in Div 6 K1 for Ben.

Well done to David Blackmore & Michael Dacombe who qualified for the GB Under18s Dragon Boat Racing Squad. They were selected for the GB Under18s Dragon Boat squad in the recent trials in Liverpool & will paddle for GB in the European Championships in Brandenburg, Germany in August 2018. Michael and David regularly train in a canoe at the Solihull Canoe Club on Saturday mornings and are paddlers with the Pershore Phoenix Dragon Boat team.

The lads were in of the Gold medal winning 10man boat, 200metres mixed GB team and also won a number of bronze medals. And they also hope compete in Hasler canoe races this year.

A challenging first Hasler race of the 2018 season

Marathon
2018 Ben
A smaller team than usual started the first 2018 Hasler race at Leamington. This year only a few hardy paddlers started this challenging race. The Leam & Avon rivers were flowing fast and unpredictablably, the river was high and the portage was slippery and difficult.

Well done to Ben who came 3rd in division 6 and just missed out on a promotion. Adam & Tom won division 8 K2 and Alex did well to finish her division 7 race. Well done everyone & hopefully the conditions get warmer and better.
