TOM LUSTY & NIKY CRESSER WIN THE 32km LIFFEY DESCENT KAYAK RACE

The Liffy descent is an iconic kayak race in Ireland and one of the International Canoe Federation World series events.
The Irish Times report reads: "On a day when low water caused carnage on the 18-mile course, British pair Nicky Cresser and Tom Lusty were the winners of the K2 class at the 59th Liffey Descent canoe marathon. Race winners Cresser and Lusty were delighted just to finish the race and take a first win. "We were fourth going into the first weir at Straffan and got our line right and found ourselves in the lead. After that we kept pushing and no-one caught up with us," the pair said after their win." Cresser is a Liffey veteran but for Lusty, who is the fastest 1000m man in Britain, it was a first.

NACHO WINS THE BRONZE MEDAL IN THE SPANISH SURFSKI CHAMPIONSHIPS

Welcome to our newest Solihull Canoe Club member Ignatio Soler Fabre (Nacho) and congratulations on your third place result in the Spanish Surfski Championships this weekend. The Spanish are one of the world's top paddling nations, so the competition is tough!

Nacho writes: "Thunderstorms threatened to cancel the Championship and the start was brutal, everyone wanted to be first around the first buoy. I managed to get into the second  group on the water but when the group started crumbling as people were left behind I went for it and reached the first group of about 10 including the 4 time defending champion Esteban and Luis Amado who won a bronze medal in the world marathon kayak championships the week before! I am very happy with this bronze medal that tastes like gold in my first year as a Senior. Next stop: Irish Surfski Championships in Dun Laoghaire."

2018 Lincoln Hasler

Marathon
The new Hasler season has started & a few Solihull paddlers made the long journey north. The best result was achieved by Becky & Liz who came second in their K2 in division 7. David & Michael also won prizes for their third place finish in their C2. Well done to Andrew for notching up another race in a big division 7 K1 race. The year has started well with valuable club points!

2018 European Dragon Boat Championships. Brandenburg, Germany

Sprint
European Nations Dragon Boat
It was dry and warm and there was a great atmosphere with terrific support from the supporters at the European Nations Dragon Boat Championships in Brandenburg, Germany in August. The competition was tough, as could be expected from the 1500 athletes from the national teams of 18 countries. Well done to David and Michael who paddled in the under 18 GB teams and won 3 bronze medals in the 500m and 200m races.
